INTRODUCTION
Donghae port
is located on the around middle part of the eastern coast of Korean Peninsula
and it has been still well known as Bukpyung worldwide on marine
charts, but Donghae is the official name of this port. Donghae
port was first partly opened in 1978 primarily for the export of and for
the local sea-borne transportation of bulky and clinker cement.

APPROACH AND ENTRANCE
No approach channels. Port entrance is covered by two breakwater. The approaches
are also indicated on BA chart 882 and Korean chart 141.

TIDES AND WEATHER
Donghae port confronting with the East sea is under the direct
influence of the open sea. Occasionally, easterly sudden gales without warning
do cause very heavy swell in outer harbour, swell in outer harbour, rendering
very dangers and unstableness for all vessels lying at outer anchorages.
Especially, strict caution should be taken all the time during the period from
December to March in winter season.
Dense fogs frequently occur from mid-May to mid-July, sometime deteriorating
visibility of less than 100m, but duration not too long.

PILOTAGE
Pilot station 37-30-00N 129-12-00E.
Pilotage is compulsory. Two competent pilots.

PORT ADMINISTRATION
The port is administered by all governmental agencies including Tonghae District
Maritime and Port Administration (KMPA, Donghae). Quarantine,
immigration, customs are in service all the time.

QUARANTINE
Quarantine anchorage 1,450m off the south end of the north(outside) breakwater
with circle of 500m in diameter.

COMMUNICATION
VHF CH 12 is available between vessel and harbour control.
|
|
ANCHORAGE
There are total 10
anchorages in outer harbour limit. These anchorages are used only for waiting
berths where no cargo operations is done. |
